FACT:
From February
28th 2005, all horses, ponies, donkeys and mules were required
by law to have an E.U. approved EQUINE PASSPORT. The only exception
to this law is wild and ferrel ponies such as those on Dartmoor
and Exmoor, for whom different arrangements apply. The penalty for not holding a passport for every equine you own is up to £5,000.
From 1 July 2009 all foals and any older horses not previously identified must be microchipped when a passport is applied for.
The Pleasure Horse Society
passports are now issued by the horse passport agency.
There are a number of specific breed societies issuing passports for those animals registered with them.
